King’s School had already successfully battled their way through two rounds to secure themselves a place in the English Schools Under-15 Boys/Mixed National Finals in Bolton on Saturday.

Six schools from across the country secured their place but King’s were the only non-independent school.

The 10 players clearly wanted to improve their position from last year when they finished sixth.

The opening rounds saw them take on Haberdashers Aske, London and Trinity School, Croydon. Their first match went well, although a last minute goal from Haberdashers saw the game end in a 2-2 draw. Their second game against Trinity needed to be a win to get a place in the semi-finals. The boys scored a goal in the first half and continued to play a defensive game in the second to secure a last four place.

The semi saw them play Alleyns School and despite going ahead in the first half, Alleyns scored twice in the last few minutes.

They came up against Trinity again in the play-off to decide third and fourth.

At the end of the first half, King’s were 3-1 down but in the second half they bravely fought back to score twice mores to tie at 3-3. This led to a penalty shoot-out which King’s lost on sudden death.

The 10 boys competing for King’s were captain Tom Cotton, goalkeeper Krzysztoff Fedorczuk, Will Seage, Noah Clegg, Cameron Chow, Harry Fowler, Jack Marshall, Cameron Manderfield, Will Shennan and Will Herring.
