Bassingham racing driver Jack Harvey has won the prestigious Earl Howe Trophy at the 2014 British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) Awards.

The award is presented to the highest placed British driver in the Indy 500 race, or to the British driver who has established the most meritorious performance of the year in North America.

Jack’s outstanding first season in Indy Lights earned him the accolade. Jack ended the Indy Lights 2014 season in second place in the drivers’ championship, tied on points with the championship winner – an outstanding result considering it was his rookie year racing in America and in Indy Lights.

The Racing Steps Foundation-backed driver scored a total of 10 podium finishes during the year and dominated the second half of the season, winning four of the last five races.

Jack said: “It is such an honour to receive the Earl Howe Trophy. In the past this award has almost always gone to an Indy Car driver, so it’s a special feeling to receive it in my first year in Indy Lights.

“The BRDC is such a prestigious club, so to receive an award from them is a very proud moment.

“It is also nice to know that, despite racing in America this year, people are still following me from the other side of the pond.

“It’s been a great year but there has also been a lot of hard work, so it’s an awesome feeling to get an award like this that recognises everything that has gone into achieving the results this season.”
