NETBALL: Grantham’s Potter picked for English World Championship team

A 16-year-old Grantham schoolgirl has been selected to represent England in their Under-18 Indoor Nets team at the World Championships in Australia in October.

Jade Potter will be travelling to Brisbane to play ‘nets’ which is a version of netball played inside of high-tensioned netted courts where the ball does not go out of play, making it fast-paced and energetic.

Jade, who is also a member of the East Midlands Netball Regional Performance Academy and Under-19 National Performance League squad, has been training and playing hard all season and enjoying much success as a key team GS and GA.

Like many young local athletes, she has developed self-discipline, hard work and a positive attitude to achieving her goals. Currently studying for 12 GCSE exams, she manages to juggle daily fitness training and netball training twice weekly, along with most weekends training or playing all over the country.

Nets training in the run-up to the World Championships is taking place in London and Bristol and so involves a huge commitment to ensure that she is in the right place at the right time, with the correct kit.

As funding for netball is limited, Jade has to raise the £3,000 tour costs herself so has organised a number of events including a raffle with prizes donated from Belton Woods Hotel Leisure Club, Belton Park golf club, UK Hair and Beauty, Pets at Home, Grantham Bowl, Loughborough Lighting and Northumbria’s national Super League team.

She is also looking for local sponsorship where company logos may be promoted on her England team kit.

Jade has a fundraising page where she is receiving donations to support her place on the tour. Visit www.gofundme.com/qjzfsaa
