One-man destruction

South Lincs and Border League Division Two

Burgh 171-9, Belton Park 2nds 110-8.

Having been inserted on a soft green wicket, Burgh got off to a good start putting on 50 for the first wicket, eventually broken by a needless run-out.

There then followed a one-man destruction of Belton’s bowling by debutant Mark Johnson as he eased to a classy chanceless 88, dismissing any bad ball with aplomb until he became one of Matt Law’s four victims.

In support, Mick Coulson (4-36) made short work of Burgh’s middle order as Law finished with 4-43.

In reply, Belton were unable to handle the consistent seam bowling of Wilkinson ( 4-23), supported by Chatterton ( 2-35), as they slumped to 57-7.

Only Sheardown (17), Law (12) and Perera (13) achieved double figures.

Faced with a hopeless task, there followed a spirited partnership between Olly Stanley (22 no) and Tom Helliwell (15) which frustrated the Burgh bowling attack and allowed Belton to pass the 100 mark.
