Annual golf day raises money for charity
Twenty-seven teams of four descended on Belton Park Golf Club for the Rotary Club of Grantham Kesteven’s 16th Annual Charity Golf Day to enjoy an exceptional day's golf on a rather windy and overcast day on, as always, a superbly maintained course.
For an entry fee of £170 per team, they were able to play 27 holes in two competitions, an 18-hole Fourball Stableford and a nine-hole Texas Scramble, in an attempt to win some of the fabulous prizes on offer. There were also prizes for longest drives on holes five and 18 and nearest the pin’ on holes four, six and 17, with a special prize on hole 14 sponsored by Vertu Honda Group Fleet and won by Robin Hartley. They could also enter a putting competition and join in the raffle, with many excellent prizes
When signing in, all teams received 12 Callaway Supersoft golf balls, sponsored by BGB Innovation of Grantham.
All four par three holes had major prizes at stake for a hole-in-one including a new Honda Jazz sponsored by the Vertu Honda Group Fleet, and golfing breaks in Portugal and the UK. Unfortunately, no one managed to win any of these but one competitor missed winning the car by just a few inches.
Twelve lucky people walked away with some great raffle prizes including fourball rounds of golf at Greetham Valley, Stoke Rochford, Sleaford and Belton Park, a £100 voucher and two 50 Euro vouchers.
Despite the weather, everyone had a fabulous day, culminating in a carvery dinner and the prize presentations with a cheque being presented by president Sue Kinder to The British Lung Foundation. Other local charities will also benefit from the £4,500 raised.
The Rotary Club would like to thank all the sponsors that supported the event, the competitors and Belton Park Golf Club for making this such a successful and enjoyable day.
Next year’s 17th Annual Charity Golf Day will be on Thursday, June 13. If you would like to join in the fun and fellowship, then ring Mike Charity on 01476 563896 to register your interest.
