Kesteven made the trip into Derbyshire fielding a much changed team to face the league leaders.

Melbourne got off to a flying start with a converted try after three minutes.

Turner responded with a straight forward penalty five minutes later but Ks were dealt a blow shortly after when Tom Webster had to leave the field with a shoulder injury. Ian Charles came on and Dan Turner, who had started the game in the centre, moved back into the forwards.

The Kesteven pack were getting on top but the Melbourne backs were sharp and able to cash in on limited possession to add a couple of tries.

Tony Woolerton took advantage of a good break by Turner to score for the visitors, but Melbourne finished the half strongly with another try to earn themselves a bonus point.

The second half was only five minutes old when Kesteven were hit by a double blow. Charlie Pirie suffered a head injury and was forced to leave the field for a check, while Melbourne added a fifth try.

Pirie was not able to return and Kesteven were left to finish the match with 14 players. Melbourne took full advantage and ran in a further three tries to run out comfortable winners.

Kesteven: Cann, Windsor, Hughes, Turner, Cox, Parker, Lines, Pert, Sheardown, Purvis, Webster, Cowley, Armstrong, Pirie, Woolerton. Sub: Charles.

l Kesteven 2nd XV endured a difficult day at Lincoln, going down 92-5 to a very strong side.

Nick Mawby score the Kesteven try from a typical forward drive, but the visitors had no answer to the strong running Lincoln backs.

l This Saturday, Kesteven will play host to Newark in front of a good home crowd as club president Mike Money welcomes back old members for the annual reunion.
