Just three minutes were on the clock when Kesteven opened the scoring. Hudson got possession deep in his own half and set off up the right wing, kicking ahead and controlling the ball well to gather and score.

Kesteven attacked from the restart and this time Dan Turner made the break. Keiran Taylor was the one in support to run in for the try. Harland converted.

Any thoughts that this would set the pattern for the match were soon dispelled as East Retford were awarded a penalty which they converted. This set up a period of forward play with both packs working to gain domination.

Kesteven found it harder to get decent ball for their backs. They got one more chance before the break and again it was Turner who was the provider. Another fine break up to the 22 and he found Cowley in support to score. Harland converted to make the half time score 19-3.

Jake Hughes picked up an injury just before the break and was replaced by Whittaker, who made an immediate impact. He took possession on half way and outstripped the defence to score in the corner and earn the bonus point.

Retford however raised their game as their forwards took control. They dominated territory but could not find a way through the Kesteven defence.

James Cowley was red carded with 20 minutes to go for stamping, but the Kesteven side redoubled their efforts. They again made good use of their replacements as Whittaker, Brown and Peabody all came on to good effect.

It was a sign of their spirit that saw them rise above their adversity to steal away in the last 10 minutes. First Odams went close when he chased through on a Turner kick, but just failed to gather before the ball ran into touch. Then Taylor sent Whittaker away on another run. This time the wing chipped ahead and gathered at speed to slide in at the corner. Harland converted with a fine kick from the touchline.

Turner, who had another outstanding game, made yet another break. This time Wood was up in suport on the inside to score. Parker added the conversion with the final kick of the match.
