Young players from Kesteven Rugby Club had the opportunity to develop their skills with 10-time English champions Leicester Tigers and then share in matchday at the iconic Welford Road stadium on Saturday.

Tigers Matchday Coaching Clinics give players the opportunity to work with the club’s coaches on developing their individual and team skills, as well as taking tips and techniques with them to work on during the rest of the season.

Clinics also provide a chance to meet a Tigers first-team player to talk about playing professional rugby for the biggest club in the country, before groups join a bumper crowd at Welford Road to watch a first-team game and see the professionals put those techniques into practice.

Kesteven’s players joined Saturday’s Tigers Matchday Coaching Clinic and watched the team’s win over Newcastle Falcons in the Kings of the North tournament. They even managed to follow in the players’ footsteps by having a team photo taken on the pitch at half time.

James Bennett, under-8s head coach at Kesteven, accompanied the group.

James said: “We want to thank Tigers, it was absolutely fantastic.

“The kids enjoyed working with the coach, he was very good, they had lots of games, lots of work on the core skills, passing drills and creating space, which was absolutely brilliant.

“The kids got a lot out of it and then coming on to the pitch, on to the hallowed turf at Welford Road, was absolutely brilliant for a photo in front of the crowd. We couldn’t ask for a better day.”
