Gav Meadows and Julie Riggall of Grantham Running Club took part in the Robin Hood 10K at Sherwood Pines on Saturday.

The off-road event was the second of the three-race East Midlands 10K Trail series. Conditions were tough as heavy rain and a prior duathlon created a very muddy course.

Gav finished 30th in a field of 516. He recorded a time of 41 mins 04 secs, while Julie completed the course in 56 mins 46 secs.

“Running in the mud is always a challenge and the undulating course made it even tougher,” said Gav.

“At least it stopped raining before the race.

“I’m very pleased with this result considering the conditions, but I am in some doubt as to whether this course was actually 10km.

“According to my watch it was only about 9.5km. This time is only a minute slower than my road personal best so I’m pretty sure it was short.”
