Two Grantham swimmers did their club proud at the British Summer Championships.

William Hawkes and Eleanor Lythgoe did a storming job of flying the flag for Grantham at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.

William scooped two bronze medals, in the 100m and 200m breaststroke – with both swims breaking Lincolnshire county records.

The 14-year-old from Croxton Kerrial also made finals in the 50m breaststroke, in which he missed a medal by 0.06sec, and the 200m freestyle. He also qualified to swim the 200m individual medley, placing 14th out of 24.

Eleanor Lythgoe, also 14, swam 200m butterfly. She attacked the race and recorded a personal best to finished 12th position, a great result for her first competition at national level.

This week, swimmers from Grantham are taking part in the English Nationals, also at Ponds Forge.

William returns to swim the 400m IM and the 400m freestyle, whilst Eleanor will take part in the 100m butterfly.

They will be joined by Thomas Lewis (200m backstroke), Molly Colbert (100m freestyle), Sophie Culpin (200m butterfly and 400IM) and Hayley Milne (100m freestyle, 100m breaststroke, 200m IM and 50m freestyle).
