Five of Grantham Swimming Club’s elite swimmers competed against the very best in the region at the Midlands Youth Championship and broke four county records in style.

Sophie Culpin, Thomas Lewis, Caleb Mackay, Luke Marriott and Hayley Milne travelled to Corby for the weekend for the 15-and-over regional competition.

Para-swimmer Hayley scooped four medals over the weekend – three bronze and one silver, with four personal bests out of five swims.

Sophie broke county records in 50m butterfly, 20m butterfly and 400m individual medley, and made the final in the 200m butterfly.

Thomas Lewis made two backstroke finals – finishing fourth in the 200m backstroke.

Luke Marriott broke a county record in the 50m breaststroke, becoming the fastest swimmer in the club’s history, and Caleb Mackey’s whopping six second PB in the 200m IM broke a club record.

Overall Grantham swimmers toppled eight long course club records.

Meanwhile, the club’s younger swimmers are still preparing for their Midland Championships. William Hawkes, Molly Colbert, Eleanor Lythgoe, Maddie Barnes, Abigail Farkas, Abbie Phillips, Imogen Raistrick and Ella Coleman will all be competing in the Midland Age Group Championships for swimmers aged 14 and under in Coventry at the end of May.
