It was another record-breaking year for members of Grantham Swimming Club at this year’s Lincolnshire ASA County Championships.

Overall, Grantham had another fantastic year breaking 57 club records and nine county records.

Rising star Freya Colbert shone the brightest – topping the 12-year-old age group in every race she entered and winning an amazing 17 gold, three silver and two bronze medals.

Head coach Maciej Rakowski said: “It is amazing for me as a head coach to see how much swimmers progressed through hard work this year. Every year we go from strength to strength and now having so many swimmers from our small club ranked among the fastest in Britain is absolutely fantastic.”

For the first time in years, the majority of galas were held at the club’s home pool at The Meres leisure ventre and, thanks to fantastic support from One Life management and staff, everything went swimmingly.

Club chairman Sarah Raistrick said: “The Meres have been amazing. We’re so grateful for all the help staff gave us. They pretty much gave us the whole centre and really bent over backwards to ensure everything went smoothly – right down to buying in heated serving dishes so the gala officials could have a hot meal at lunchtime.

“Bringing the county championships to Grantham was a massive deal for the club but working in partnership with Meres staff like James, Julian, Toby and Dan we pulled it off and we’re hopeful we’ll be able to successfully bid for counties again next year.”
