TABLE TENNIS: Grantham club holds annual memorial tournament
Cliffedale Chandlers TTC in association with GAPS table tennis academy held its annual Herbert Pacey Memorial Tournament for primary school aged children on Saturday.
This year more than 30 players participated from most of the local primary schools, and there was also a round robin style competition for secondary school pupils.
Action got underway with an initial group stage and the table tennis played was of a very high standard considering most taking part had only been playing for a couple of months.
As well as the main and plate trophies, there was also an award for most improved boy and girl, not just judged on standard of play but also as regards sportsmanship and attitude, especially if results weren’t exactly going the way the player wanted.
In the end, the 1s of each age group had to be decided and after a tough day’s competition the results were as follows:
Under 9 Girls – 1 Amy Bridle (Cliffedale Primary), 2 Sophie Eyles (Barrowby); Under 9 Girls Plate – 1 Phoenix Mason (Isaac Newton), 2 Lara Resende; Under 9 Boys – 1 James Hobbs (Barrowby), 2 Sammy (Denton); Under 9 Boys Plate – 1 Vihanga Weerasinghe (Cliffedale), 2 Edward Hobbs (Barrowby); Under 11 Girls – 1 Lucy Bridle (Cliffedale Primary), 2 Emily Winfield (Huntingtower); Under 11 Girls Plate – 1 Sophie Peters (Belmont), 2 Chloe Moore (Cliffedale); Under 11 Boys – 1 Jake Crane (Barrowby), 2 Billy Auckland (Cliffedale Primary); Under 11 Boys Plate – 1 Levi McMahon (Allington), 2 Stelyios Patrinos (St Mary’s); Cadet/Junior Round Robin – 1 Benjamin Rigby (Charles Read DRET Academy), 2 Trafford Mason (Priory Ruskin); Most Improved Boy – Monty Edwards (Allington); Most Improved Girl – Kaylea Jade Aust (Belmont).
