The under-11 girls’ team from Cliffedale Primary school has qualified for the national finals of the English Schools’ Table Tennis Association Butterfly National Team Championship.

The finals will be be played at Hinckley Leisure Centre next Saturday (May 9).

More than 270 teams, all of them already county champions, set out on this journey, with just 32 teams qualifying to take part in one of the eight events which make up the finals.

Success in Cliffedale’s Zone Final in late January was followed by a Regional Final (one of four around the country) at which they emerged victorious over teams from Humberside and Staffordshire.

To take the final step to become Butterfly National Schools’ Champions, the team of four players will need to be at their very best to overcome opponents from Lancashire, Central London and South London in what they realise will be the most pressured of atmospheres.

The Cliffedale team comprises Amber Halsey, Lucy Bridle, Ui-Sun Shin and Steffia Poppa.
