King’s School student Matthew Leete won gold for England in the International Schools Championships at the University of Limerick in Ireland.

In a busy competition, teams of two played in three age groups over a three-day period. Matt and partner Joe Clark, of Middlesbrough, fought their way to the final of the under-16 boys in which they triumphed over the England B team by a 3-1 margin.

Matthew Leete tops the podium alongside England A team-mate, with England B in second and Ireland A in third.

Through these stages Matt only dropped one set and did not lose a match. Also, Matt achieved a silver in the individuals, losing to Irishman Owen Cathcart 3-2 in a tight match.

Matt would like to say thank you to local businessman Peter Durham, of Durham Cleaning Services, for financial support towards his travel and training costs.
