TENNIS: Busy weekend for Grantham club teams


Rob Start, Joe Patton, Lewis Picker, Rob Isaac, Richard Smart and Adam Tapson played for Grantham Tennis Club men’s first team against a strong Lady Bay at the weekend.

With some matches ending in draws and other matches being very close, Grantham were unfortunate not to win overall after a great performance.

The ladies’ first team travelled to David Lloyd Nottingham and were Meg Jones and Sarah Patton, Sam Parker and Mel Bloodworth, and Mel Milner and Wendy Stewart.

A great performance from both sides saw the team narrowly lose 60-48 in a difficult but very enjoyable match.

rantham’s fourth mixed team had a convincing victory away at Farnsfield, 80 games to 28 games.

The team consisted of Martin Garratt and Ros Elphick, Colin Walton and Katy Dines, and David Todd and Lorraine Walton, and now sit mid-table which looks promising for the rest of the season.

Mini Red Grantham C side travelled to Boston at the weekend to play a strong Eastgate.

The team comprised of John Sheardown, Jack Cropper, Ed Wynn and Gilbert Wynn, and won comfortably 15-3.

Grantham Red A won 18-0 this weekend against Tealby. James Timms, Josh Harris, Toby Cullen and Imogen Clough were the players involved. They have won their group and will go through to the semi-finals of the Lincolnshire Mini Tennis League.

Grantham Red B team beat St James’ 15-3 and comprised James Timms, Marc Blake, Bethany Aust and Elijah Green. They have finished runners-up in the group and will meet Grantham A in the semi-finals.

Orange A team played Maskill Raskills this weekend. Hugo Dunn, Josh Harris and Luke Cullen played very well and comfortably won 8-1 in a very strong performance.

Orange B team took on Maskill Raskills B team this weekend, and James Timms, Bethany Aust, Imogen Clough managed to clinch a narrow 5-4 victory.

Grantham B Green played a strong Farnsfield Aces side and narrowly lost 6-3. Polly Cullen, Ava Holt and Ben Rogers put in a great performance but dropped down one place to third in the league.
