TENNIS: Grantham girls win Aegon Lincs League
Grantham Tennis Club girls’ 14-and-under Aegon team have won the Lincolnshire League.
The girls fielded their usual side of Lydia Marshall, Cerys Jones, Madison Cook and Angela Halton against Boston.
The girls have played some great tennis all season and enjoyed a 10-2 victory over to claim the county championship.
The final victory was an excellent finale to the season, capping an extremely proficient performance throughout.
l And the men’s Aegon team capped off a good season with an away win over Appleby Frodingham away. Already qualified for the regional play-off, Grantham fielded a team consisting of Andrew Isaac, Richard Cragg, Jonathan Cummins and Nathan Gunning, and returned home with a comfortable 12-0 victory.
l The boys’ 18-and-under A team also finished their season top of the Lincolnshire League with a win over Grantham B team on Saturday afternoon. Michael Cragg, Adam Tapson, Hugo Jagger and Robbie Curtis completed a very good season for the boys.
l Grantham men’s first team suffered a tough defeat at the weekend to a strong David Lloyd side.
The Grantham team consisted of Richard Surtees, Andrew Isaac, Darren Taxis, Simon Cormor, Richard Cragg, Jonathan Cummins and Paul White.
The end result was an 8-1 loss, however the scoreline does not reflect on the matches, with most of them ending in a third set tie-break.
l In a very close encounter, Grantham’s mixed fourth team of Nigel Birch, Megan Jones, Rob Isaac, Cerys Jones, Mike Roys and Laura Dixon beat Nettleham 6-3 and 81 games to 54. The team have now won their first three matches.
l The Mini Red A team travelled to Louth last weekend and walked away with a comfortable 14-2 victory. The team comprised of Hugo Dunn, Joshua Harris, Toby Cullen and Sam McCarthy.
Grantham Green A team beat Grantham B at the weekend weekend. The A team consisted of Freya Warren, Christie Halton, Jake Cullen and Jamie Wallace. The B team were Kimberley, Jack Street Thomas Legard and Oliver Thomas.
l Grantham second mixed team played at Attenborough in the Nottinghamshire Division and managed to secure a very tough win, with the score 10-8. The team were Megan Jones and Rob Start, Wendy Stewart and David Blanchard, Jo Jones and Mark Ottey.
