TENNIS: Grantham men’s fourth string lose season opener on the road

Grantham Tennis Club’s men’s fourth team started the season with a match at Farnsfield on Sunday.

In beautiful weather, the Grantham team of Mike Roys, Steve Bratton, Jarek Mechlinski, John Challons, Chris Matthews and Jim Stephenson lost by the narrowest margin, eight sets to 10.

Last Monday, Grantham mixed 2nd played away at David Lloyd Burton Waters who are currently top of the league in Lincs Division One.

Grantham had a strong team – Megan Jones and Jon Cummins, Sarah Lucas and Phil Lawton, and Liz Stokes and Ben Cullen – and played brilliantly, but unfortunately lost by just five games, 53-48.

Grantham mixed 2nd played against Sleaford at home last Thursday.

They fielded very strong team of Melanie Bloodworth and Jon Quinn, Liz Stokes and Phil Lawton, and Jackie Wilson and Rob Start, to take a very comfortable win of 103-14.
