Grantham Tennis Club’s mixed first team played their first game of the season away to a strong Burton Joyce side at the weekend.

The Grantham team consisted of Lianne Tapson, Andrew Isaac, Megan Jones, Richard Cragg, Jonathan Cummins and Jackie Wilson, and managed to win comfortably 8-1.

The emphatic victory augurs well for the rest of the season and, with such a strong line-up, Grantham will be looking to finish in a strong position.

l The ladies’ third team travelled to Wollaton for their third match of the season where their winning streak came to an end.

After a hard fought battle, the match ended in a 11-7 defeat for the Grantham side.

The team were captain Jo Carstairs, Katy Dines, Cerys Jones, Sue Cox, Roz Elphick and Claire Marris

l The David Hall men’s team played a difficult midweek match in the Lincolnshire League. The team comprised John Petkovic and David Hall, Ian Gordon and Dave Hawkins, and Chris Pye-Smith and Chris Matthews.

The men travelled away to Collingham to face their second string who unfortunately for Grantham came out on top, the final score being 78-39.

l Grantham men’s fourth team registered an emphatic 15-3 victory in their first home match of the summer season. The team were Barry Priestly, David Todd, Matt Street, John Walker, David Dowty and Rob Isaac, and look to show great promise after such a great start.

l Grantham Tennis Club hosted an end of Aegon party at it Arnoldfield base on Sunday.

The party saw the best part of around 200 people throughout the day, with full courts, full bar and a fabulous barbecue courtesy of Matt Warren, Sophie Fletcher and the Blake family.

It was a great time to thank captains for organising, parents for the taxi services and, of course, all the players that have played and helped Grantham Tennis Club to have yet another fantastic Aegon season, with many more to come.
