Grantham Tennis Club youngster Tom White enjoyed a successful weekend, reaching the final of an under-16s tournament at Knighton Tennis Centre in Leicester that featured a number of overseas players.

A bye and a second round victory against Staffordshire’s Andrew John 4-2 4-2, was soon followed by a 5-3, 4-2 win over fourth seed Rohit Sunku in the semi-final.

A final against top seed and highly rated Ireland-based player Adebola Obasoto was Tom’s reward.

A tight first set went with serve to 3-3 and after chances to go ahead, Tom lost it 5-3.

This was followed by two tight first games which went against him, before losing overall 5-3, 4-0, but it was a commendable effort nonetheless.
