KGGS student Angela Halton qualified for the regional finals of the U14 County Road to Wimbledon competition at Eastgate Tennis Club, Lincoln.

The event coincided with the ladies’ Wimbledon final and hosted the winners and runners-up of girls and boys who competed in tournaments open to all tennis clubs, parks and schools in the country.

The competition is the largest British tennis junior tournament and enables all under-14 players the opportunity to progress through and compete on the hallowed turf at London’s SW19.

Angela, who lives just outside Grantham, and Hugo Hunt were the eventual winners of the Lincolnshire regional final for the girls and boys respectively. They will now go forward to the national finals at Wimbledon in August.

Angela and Hugo, who already represent the county at tennis, will have the complete use of the facilities at Wimbledon during the tournament and will attend a coaching clinic with Tim Henman, the former British tennis number one.

The competition is sponsored by HSBC in conjunction with British Tennis.
