Grantham Tennis Club men’s first team fielded what must be their youngest ever team, including three teenagers, to take on Boston firsts last Saturday.

After a close first round with rubbers shared, the second round was always going to be important and the vital rubber went Grantham’s way with a good win by Jon Cummins and James Drennan, eventually resulting in a 5-4 match win for Grantham to take them to second in the Lincs First Division.

The rest of the team were Andrew Isaac and Tom White, and Joe Patton and Michael Cragg, with all doing enough to bring home what was a good result.

The men’s first team travelled to Burton Waters on Sunday and comprised of Thomas and Paul White, Andrew Isaac and Richard Cragg, and Jonny Cummins (Cena) and Jimmy Drennan.

The home team proved way too strong and won the match comfortably, 9-0.

The fifth mixed team suffered a home defeat to a strong Eastwood side, losing 13 sets to five last weekend.

The team consisted of Martin Garratt and Liz Stokes, Colin Walton and Gail Browne, and Peter Elphick and Lorraine Walton.
