Belvoir Tri Club had a brilliant turn out to the early season Sprint Duathlon at Stathern on Sunday, with a total of 11 members taking part.

The weather was kind, with a light wind and cool temperatures, favourable for this point in the season.

The race comprised of an 18km bike, dovetailed with 5km run legs. The weather did not pose too much of a problem for the run, other than a cold start, but a tricky easterly wind made progress along Belvoir Lane tough at times. However, the tailwind back along Long Lane more than made up for it, with the faster bike riders easily averaging more than 43kmh on that section.

Karl Hunt was the first Belvoir Tri Club member home in a total time of 1hr 15min 13sec, putting him in eighth place overall. Glynn Attiwell and Martin Jolly took second and third in the club stakes, 11th and 16th overall, with times of 1:17:03 and 1:17:58 respectively.

Others: Blake Hutchinson 1:25:17, Ove Andresen 1:25:35, Phil Davies 1:29:31, Oliver Wood 1:30:10, Steve Squires 1:30:35, Wayne France 1:31:12, Paul Letchworth 1:34:23, Penny Lowe 2:00:50, Louise George 1:45:08.

• Belvoir Tri Club are also embarking on a season supporting the GO-Tri initiative from Triathlon England which will see their inaugural event taking place on March 29 at Melton Mowbray leisure pool.

The event is a Sprint Aquathon comprising of a 200m swim and a 3km run, and is aimed squarely at the novice. Entry is £5 and more details can be found at www.belvoirtriclub.co.uk/go-tri
