Four Belvoir Triathlon Club members took to the shores of a Cambridge lake on Sunday for the Cambridge Triathlon.

First off in the Olympic Distance race were Blake Hutchinson and Louise Payne. They covered the 1500m swim, 43km bike and 10km run in 2hr 39min and 3:01 respectively, placing Blake fourth in his age group and Louise second in hers.

Louise said she found the ‘beach’ start to the swim a bit scary, but once in the water she found her rhythm. Normally her best discipline, the run was not to her liking due to the terrain.

She said: “I was disappointed with the run. I felt I could only manage to put one foot in front of another.”

Blake was very pleased with his race and once again gave a solid performance on the bike leg, gaining an average speed of around 21mph for the 27 miles, and that was before a sub-50 minute 10km run. Not bad for a 47-year-old man who was nearly 20 stones in weight only two years ago.

Next up were Chris Masters and Mick Oliver in the Sprint distance race (750m swim, 21.5km bike, 5km run).

After just three months of regular training with Belvoir Tri club, Chris has made massive gains in all areas. His 5km run time has come down from 28 minutes to 19.15. He was 15th overall and third in his age group with a time of 1:17.

Mick raced himself to eighth position overall and first in his age group in a time of 1hr 12mins.

Abi Schofield travelled to Manchester to race the National Biathle Championships.

This was her first biathle which was a 1500m run, 200m swim, followed by another 1500m run, with the swim taking part in Salford Quay.

Using it as training and for fun, she did not expect to win, however after the swim she had a clear lead after a close first run.

Elsewhere, Catherine Davies and Rob Spashett raced at Bassetlaw Sprint Triathlon, finishing in 1:21:13 and 1:21:12 respectively.
