TRIATHLON: Belvoir Tri trio tested in Lincoln sprint event

Three of Belvoir Tri Club’s sprint triathlon specialists braved torrential rain on Sunday to compete in the David Lloyd Sprint Triathlon at Lincoln on Sunday.

Sara Bedford, Karl Hunt and Martin Jolly joined 426 other brave souls to compete in the event which comprised of a 400m pool swim, a 24km bike leg, finished off with a 5km run.

Sara bore the brunt of the rain with an earlier start time, but posted a result (8:49 swim, 52:14 bike, 28:21 run) which saw her finish ninth in her age group.

Just over an hour later, Karl and Martin took to the course with a four minute gap between them.

Karl came home in sixth place in his age group with a 7:22 swim, a 40:07 bike and a 21:08 run. Martin took the club spoils with a fantastic bike leg to come home in fifth place in his age group with a 7:39 swim, a 40:06 bike, and a cracking 19:47 run, taking 35sec out of his team-mate.

l This weekend sees a total of 19 Belvoir Tri Club members taking to their hometown course as Grantham Sprint Tri takes place at The Meres leisure centre.

The race will be the Sprint Triathlon Championships for the club with the first silverware in the club’s history going to the first-placed male and female overall in the race.

Spectators and prospective triathletes are welcome to attend and check out the action.
