Great Ponton took the lead early on when striker Ayden O’Brien took advantage of a poor clearance by the Birchwood defence.

Birchwood battled hard but it was not long before Barry Harrison doubled Ponton’s lead after running free from the defenders and slotting the ball superbly into the bottom corner.

Harrison continued his scoring streak just before half time after a perfect cross from striking partner O’Brien.

The second half was as physical as the first, but Ponton’s midfield did their job exceptionally well and stayed strong throughout.

Birchwood never let up and man-of-the-match Harry Wing worked tirelessly in the Ponton defence, helping keeper Ted Sweeney-Biffen keep a clean sheet.

Ponton: Sweeney-Biffen, Wing, Raitt, Simmonds, Croft, O.Devine, J.Devine, Hodgkinson, McDonald, Harrison, O’Brien, Harvey, Pires, Bilton.
