YOUTH FOOTBALL: Grantham Flames Girls trained by ‘Posh’ coaches
Grantham Flames Girls have been put through their paces by Peterborough United Women and Girls Coaches Jenna Lusk and Kathryn Lusk.
They came and hosted a training session with the girls and gave them a taste of what it is like to be trained by top level ladie’s coaches. They presented the girls with a Posh banner, and invited them to Peterborough United Women versus Crystal Palace in May.
Flames Girls coach Leigh Ecuyer said: “The girls all loved it, and the coaches were really impressed with the team. This is our first season together and they were impressed at their ability levels already.”
Grantham Flames are looking to really push girls’ football in Grantham and are applying for funding to the Grow the Game foundation to commit to starting two new teams over the next two years.
The girls have now finished their first season in the Nottinghamshire League and have performed way above expectations, the highlight being a 14-0 cup win.
Leigh said: “We have had compliments from nearly all the opposition managers on how well we have played.”
Grantham Flames are hosting a ‘Girls and Goals’ open day in conjunction with Lincolnshire FA on May 13, 11am-1pm, on the pitch behind Grantham Fire Station.
