Long Bennington C of E Academy girls’ team entered the Lincolnshire Area Primary Schools Under-11 County Finals football competition in Skegness last Saturday after qualifying by winning the Grantham and District Tournament.

The team arrived in Skegness at 9am ready to play. Their first matches went really well, allowing them to progress to the play-offs.

Bennington triumphed in the play-offs to reach the semi-finals where they came up against StBotolphs who they defeated 1-0 after Lucy Brown scored a great goal.

That took them through to the final against Richmond, which was obviously going to be their toughest match.

The short format game of seven minutes each way ended scoreless, as did the following period of extra time. Bennington then won the resulting penalty shoot-out, with keeper Amy Price putting in some great saves and Rosie Gilbert scoring the winning spot kick.

Bennington will now contest the Midlands Finals which will take place in Nottingham in March.
