YOUTH FOOTBALL: Young Harrowby United progress to county cup quarter-finals
Lincolnshire Under-14 County Cup
Deeping Rangers 1
Harrowby United 3
The Young Arrows travelled to Deeping Rangers from the top flight of the Peterborough League for this last 16 tie in the Lincolnshire County Cup.
On a very heavy pitch, both teams struggled to play their style of passing football but it was Harrowby that struck first when a deep corner-kick was smashed back into the goalmouth area by Foister, which found Henry Dilley who poked the ball home from close range.
The home team then equalised within minutes with a fine solo run, finished off with a low shot beating the outstretched hand of Josh Ward in the Arrows goal.
Harrowby then set about the task once more and some strong midfield play released Matt Cox who shrugged off several tackles and, from a tight angle, powered the ball home to restore the Arrows lead before the break.
The second half progressed with Deeping having the better period of play and any attacks that pierced the Arrows excellent defence were saved by Ward who kept Harrowby in the game on two occasions.
As the heavy pitch was creating tired legs, it was time for Kye Hull to show his strength when, after a blocked shot, he neatly spun on a waist-high ball and volleyed into the top corner to put the tie beyond the home side, progressing the Young Arrows side into the quarter-finals.
Harrowby man of the match was Henry Dilley.
