A new exhibition of art by local people has opened in the Guildhall in Grantham today.
The venue is host to a multi-themed art exhibition of landscape painting, portraiture and abstraction by highly talented local students.
The Newton Room at the Grantham Guildhall Arts Centre is hosting a group show of up to 70 pieces of artwork from students of courses held by local artist Sarah Watson, from June 2 to June 13.
For the first time, the exhibition, called From landscape to Life, will bring together the very best of paintings and drawings produced over the last two years in dedicated courses on watercolour painting, abstraction, portraiture and landscape.
Highlights include a section dedicated to work created on a group painting trip to the Basque Country in October last year and an impressive display of portraiture from life and photograph. An especially enjoyable area is given over to the ‘Rogues Gallery’ featuring an array of students’ self portraits and pen and wash sketches of each other. A variety of media has been used from pastels and charcoal to watercolour and acrylics.
Entry is free. The Newton Room is open daily from 9am to 5pm and during the showtimes. Visitors are advised to call in advance to ensure the room is open on 01476 406158.
Sarah is currently taking bookings for summer courses in life drawing, daytime and evening ‘en plein air’ landscape painting and also a watercolour trip to Mallorca in October. For more information visit www.sarahwatsonarts.com
