Festivities are in full flow at Belton House which is hosting a series of Christmas carols in the Marble Hall, putting on a Holly and Ivy Festive favourites Trail and hosting a late night shopping evening.

The Christmas carols will be held on Friday and Saturday, December 14 and 15 when local choirs will be performing in stunning 17th Century surroundings.

Younger visitors will be attracted to the Holly and Ivy ‘Festive Favourites’ Trail which is taking place every day in December. Follow the clues around the garden to identify the names of seasonal tunes and Christmas carols. There is also the chance to meet Santa in the decorated stables at weekends. Christmas craft activities in the Discovery Centre will allow families to create a variety of decorations (noon-3pm).

A special late night shopping event is planned for Thursday, December 20, from 6pm to 8pm. Visitors can try tasters of local cheeses and chutneys and sample a range of festive fruit liqueurs while browsing for Christmas gifts in the newly refurbished Coach House gift shop. Hot drinks and mince pies will be available too.

Visitor Services Manager Mary Kindred said: “We have a lovely, varied programme of seasonal activities and events focusing on the Stable Yard, garden and grounds that are sure to delight any visitor to Belton over the Christmas period. Our aim has been to create a festive atmosphere in a relaxed setting for visitors to take some time out, meet friends and family, enjoy a leisurely Christmas lunch, take a stroll in the gardens or parkland, browse for Christmas gifts and enjoy the very best of Belton. It’s a great way to escape some of the hustle and bustle at what is so often a hectic time of year.”
