Relive the beginnings of 1960s folk-rock legends Fairport Convention – at Ropsley

Ropsley Village Hall is hosting ‘The Beginnings of Fairport Convention’ on Sunday, March 24.

The show is the unique story of the foundation of the seminal Fairport Convention and of the British folk-rock revolution as seen through the eyes of one of its most pivotal figures.

Devised by Ashley Hutchings MBE to celebrate the group’s 50th anniversary, this entertaining words and music show sees Ashley and Becky Mills read from Ashley’s 1967 diary, relating the formation of the band and the history of the late Sixties music scene of Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix and The Beatles.

Woven through with songs from the early days of Fairport, including many not on the first four albums, this is a must-see for anyone interested in folk music and its development, and the wonderful decade of Sixties music.

Knaresborough-based Mills is a former member of the critically acclaimed band Waking The Witch, and guest vocalist on recent albums and tours by Ashley Hutchings and Ken Nicol (Steeleye Span).

The show starts at 7.30pm and tickets are £10/£25 for a family. Call 01476 585739.

Bring your own drink and nibbles.
