Blue Owl Gallery invites you to its new exhibition opening night on Thursday, June 7, 7-9pm.

Mark Beaven will be showing his exciting sport-themed work in a solo show ‘Ball & Bike’ to mark Blue Owl’s fourth anniversary next month in June. The exhibition will be open throughout the summer to coincide with the Tour de France and Wimbledon in July.

There will be a selection of original acrylic paintings and reproduction prints of tennis and cycling stars. This show also includes Mark’s recent satirical iPad drawings of contemporary life and cycling caricatures.

These images are original, hand-drawn works using a graphics tablet and computer software. They are then professionally printed on to archive quality watercolour paper using pigment-based inks.

Mark is a painter and printmaker who lives in Nottingham. He trained at Chelsea and Camberwell Schools of Art in London, and has an honours degree in painting and a masters degree in printmaking. He specialises in figure and portrait painting, and also etching. His work is inspired by both the observed world and allegorical subjects.

Mark has shown his paintings extensively both in the UK and abroad, including the Hayward Gallery, the Whitechapel Gallery, The South Bank Centre, London, and Chicago International Art Fair.

His pictures can be found in many private collections. He is a fellow of the Nottingham Society of Artists. Mark has exhibited his prints nationally, including the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers, Bankside Gallery, London.

All visitors are welcome and the gallery’s Belinda Thomas said she looked forward to seeing a good attendance: “We love being associated with Grantham Tennis Club, so many people coming and going, and we have a wonderful eagle-eye view of the indoor courts from our gallery.”

Belinda’s associate Jette Rasmussen also runs Exhale Therapy which is based at the club; go and see her for your sports injuries.

Blue Owl has staged 13 exhibitions, representing artists from near and far over the years.

Blue Owl Art Gallery is based at Grantham Tennis Club and is open seven days a week. There is ample free parking and a cafe.
