Grantham Guildhall hosts talk on all-female trek to North Pole next month
An interesting talk cataloguing an all-female trek to the North Pole is taking place next month.
'Polar Exposure: The Women's Euro-Arabian North Pole Expedition' will be presented at the Guildhall Arts Centre on Thursday, March 12.
Facing extreme temperatures, a constantly shifting landscape and the threat from predatory polar bears, polar scientist turned explorer Felicity Aston and a team of 10 novices from across Europe and the Middle East skied across the frozen Arctic Ocean to the North Pole.
The expedition faced many physical challenges like temperatures down to -38°C and shifting pack ice, but the core purpose of the expedition was to foster greater dialogue and understanding between women from Western and Arabian cultures.
Tickets are priced at £12/£10 concessions/£9 RGS-IBG members.
If music is more your thing, then you could check out Billy Mitchell and Bob Fox who are appearing at the Guildhall on Wednesday, March 11.
Two great voices, impeccable musicianship and a set full of memorable songs and infectious good humour, the mix of material is sparkling, full of punch and beautifully executed.
The pair's ability to connect with the audience is immediately evident as they lead you through some of their favourite songs including Lindisfarne classics and traditional folk arrangements: Sally Wheatley, Meet me on the Corner, Dance to your Daddy, Collier Laddie’s Wife, Big River, Galway Shawl, Old Peculiar feeling and many more.
Tickets are priced at £16/£14 concessions.
