Ropsley Village Hall to host top folk music duo
Ropsley Village Hall and Live and Local, Lincolnshire, present Gilmore and Roberts in concert on
Thursday (October 17) at 7.30pm
Gilmore and Roberts are multiple BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards nominees and a perennial 'hot property' duo, rooted firmly in the English folk tradition, but encompassing elements of Americana, bluegrass and rock.
Katriona Gilmore (fiery, dynamic fiddle, viola and mandolin) and Jamie Roberts (intricate, delicately percussive lap-tapping guitar, and brother of respected folk singer Kathryn Roberts) combine astounding musicianship, swapped lead vocals and trademark harmonies to create a powerful live show.
Their formidable, award-winning songs draw strongly on stories – of folk myths, family tales and historical secrets – and are as catchy and memorable as they are enthralling.
Their mesmerising material sees the duo using the full scope of sounds at their fingertips – from an enormous wall of sound, down to the most intimate and delicate of acoustic moments.
Rooted firmly in the folk tradition, but with a distinctive modern edge, the songs are as catchy and memorable as they are enthralling.
The quality of the music has led to Gilmore and Roberts touring in Canada and Europe, and touring with folk rock legends Fairport Convention. The pair have also received three nominations at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, including Best Duo in 2016.
