A wide and diverse programme of music is promised when Leicester-based choir Cantamici present their first concert in Grantham.

The choir will be performing at St Anne’s Church on Saturday, May 4, with the concert starting at 7.30pm.

The programme will feature popular classics, like Tea for Two, as well as pieces written for royalty and modern interpretations of African music.

The Making of the Drum, composed by ex-King’s Singer Bob Chilcott and commissioned by Oxford Pro Musica Singers, will be the centrepiece of the second half, with the music taking the listener on a journey in the creation of the drum.

Other music to be sung is by Purcell, Monteverdi, Holst, Stanford, Rutter and Billy Joel.

Cantamici is directed by David Necklen, who sang for several years in the choir of St Wulfram’s Church.

Since moving to Leicester, David has directed several choirs and directed workshops both in England and abroad. He presently sings with Choros Amici and Sine Nomine.

David says he is thrilled to be bringing the a capella singing of Cantamici to St Anne’s.

Tickets for the concert are £6 and available on the door.
