Last week Penny James, 18, amassed a young orchestra to perform a blend of popular, classical, folk and film music at St Wulfram’s Church, Grantham.

Featuring students both past and present, last Sunday afternoon’s concert was a huge success in memory of her late grandfather, John James.

Speaking after the concert, Penny said, “I’m absolutely delighted. A massive thank you to everyone who came along and particularly to all the students for giving up their time to practice during the exam season and the summer holidays.”

Penny, who has just completed her A-levels at Kesteven and Grantham Girl’s School, plays violin, cello and piano. Shortly she will be heading off to Trinity Laban Conservatoire in London to start further studies in violin performance.

The concert raised £1,300 to be divided between Macmillan Cancer Support, the St Barnabas Hospice in Lincoln and the St Wulfram’s spire and church building fund.
