Legendary Queen guitarist Brian May will play Grantham next year accompanied by Kerry Ellis for their Born Free tour.

May and Ellis already tasted success with the tour last year, and now the duo return with the candlelit acoustic show to be staged at The Meres Leisure Centre on Saturday, February 22.

The guitarist and West End star join together to entertain with what have been described by the critics as charming and breathtaking musical performances and stunning vocals. The tour is in support of the Born Free Foundation which works to prevent animal suffering, protect threatened species and keep wildlife in the wild.

May formed Queen with the other members in the early 1970s and the band went on to worldwide success with albums including News of the World and The Works. May was awarded the CBE in 2005 and earned a PhD in astrophysics from Imperial College in 2007.

Ellis is a star of the West End stage where she made her debut in My Fair Lady. She went on to star in Les Miserables and Wicked and also in We Will Rock You, created by Queen and Ben Elton, when she met May.

Cllr Bob Adams, portfolio holder for leisure, arts and culture at South Kesteven District Council, said he was thrilled to hear that they will be joining the Meres Live line-up for the Spring. He said: “We are absolutely delighted that Brian and Kerry have chosen to perform in Grantham. It shows that the Meres is a first rate venue for top artists – something that we have known for a while.”

Tickets for the Born Free Tour are priced £39 plus £1 booking fee, and are on sale from the Guildhall Arts Centre (Tel: 01476 406158) or book online at www.guildhallartscentre.com
