Rock ’n’ roll fans are in for a treat with the return to Grantham of Jerry Lee Lewis’s niece at the King’s Hotel in North Parade on Friday (November 23).
A performance by Mary Jean Lewis and the Starlight Boys is something of a coup for the town’s Ranch Party rock ’n’ roll club. Just like her uncle ‘The Killer’ Jerry Lee, Mary Jean pounds the piano in a boogie woogie style while singing her heart out to a blend of rock ’n’ roll, old and new, with just a hint of country thrown in for good measure.
Expect to hear material ranging from Jerry Lee classics to Nappy Brown, Carl Perkins, Patsy Cline, Laverne Baker and Ruth Brown. Her backing band, The Starlight Boys, comprise Vince Turner on rhythm guitar, Martin Barrett on lead, Alan McGubbin on double bass, and David Cameron on drums, with the unforgettable Kenny Tomlinson on saxophone. Support act on the night are top rockabilly combo The Fret Tones from Scotland. There will also be a rock ’n’ roll disco with DJ Boston Bob.
Tickets at £10 are available from Ace Pets in Welby Street or the King’s Hotel. Or call Steve on 07828 846175 or Jimmy on 07866 506185.
