A painting of a First World War Victoria Cross hero from Grantham raised £300 for mayoral charities this week.

The painting of Charles Sharpe VC by Journal cartoonist Terry Shelbourne was sold to Christine Jenkinson, of Grantham, at the Golding, Young and Mawer auction in Lincoln on Wednesday.

The money raised will go towards the Mayor of Grantham’s nominated charities.

Mayor of Grantham Coun Ian Selby said: “I was delighted with that. A big thank you to Colin Young and Terry Shelbourne.”
