A SENSUAL love story is coming to the Guildhall stage this week.

Sex, class and ambition battle for centre stage as London Classic Theatre presents Patrick Marber’s version of Strindberg’s brutal, sensual love story After Miss Julie on Tuesday.

Set in a country house near London in July 1945, celebrations for Labour’s landslide victory are in full swing.

It is on this night that lady of the house, Miss Julie, wanders into the servants’ kitchen to seek out her father’s chauffeur, John.

She finds him and, as the night draws in, their flirtation turns into passion and the two lovers embark on an all-consuming and deadly night of intensity.

Award-winning Patrick Marber’s plays are critically acclaimed, winning him the Critic’s Circle Theatre Award and a Laurence Olivier Award among many others.

Other notable plays incude Howard Katz, Don Juan in Soho and Closer.

After Miss Julie is on at the Guildhall at 7.30pm on Tuesday.

Tickets, at £10 (£9) and £6.50 for students, are available at the box office in St Peter’s Hill, by calling 01476 406158.
