One of the more popular, and controversial, comedians on the live circuit, Jimmy Carr returns to The Meres this year with his new show Funny Business.
Jimmy will be on stage at The Meres on Saturday, October 10, promising his trademark raw humour which is not suitable for under-16s.
As a stand-up, he tours relentlessly, notorious for his dark jokes and edgy one-liners, not to mention his quick-witted comebacks. It’s a brave audience member who tries to take him on with a heckle.
Jimmy, 42, is currently best known for hosting and appearing on TV panel shows such as 8 Out of 10 Cats, QI, and The Big Fat Quiz of the Year.
The Hounslow-born comedian studied political science at Cambridge before starting a career in comedy.
In 2003 he sold out a month of gigs at the Edinburgh Fringe in just a few days and has been touring regularly ever since, performing before an estimated 1.5 million people.
Jimmy is always on the cusp of controversy. In 2009 he was heavily criticised for telling a joke about British soldiers who had lost limbs in Iraq and Afghanistan and in 2012 he was again criticised for his involvement in a tax avoidance scheme.
Tickets cost £25, plus a £1 booking fee per ticket.
They are available from the Guildhall box office in St Peter’s Hill (Tel: 01476 406158) or visit www.guildhallartscentre.com
The show starts at 8pm and lasts about two hours and 20 minutes.
