VIDEO: Timmy Mallett praises Lincolnshire on cycle tour of the county

‘Utterly brilliant’ is how TV’s Timmy Mallett describes Lincolnshire.

The celebrity has been on a solo cycling tour around the county since Monday - and says it’s ‘utterly brilliant’.

He has visited a number of towns and villages - including Boston, Louth and Spilsby - tweeting pictures of the sights and people he encounters along the way.

The star - best known for his kids’ show Wacaday where he wielded a giant pink mallet - also took a flight in a microlight yesterday, enjoying the sights of Spalding, Sleaford and Lincoln from the air.

Speaking to the Boston Standard today, he said: “I’ve visited Mablethorpe and Skegness a few times before to do shows - but never really got a chance to visit other parts. It really is a beautiful county with big skies.

“I encountered my first bi-lingual toilet in Boston - which was nice. And at nearby Hobhole Pumping Station there were some people waiting for me on the side of the road with a great big mallet!”

While visiting Boston, Timmy climbed the Stump tower to enjoy the panoramic views, before having a bite to eat.

Here he also met fellow cyclist Phil Shaw from Barnstaple (@tarkacountry) - who is cycling anti-clockwise around the UK and had stopped off at Boston to visit the famous 700-year-old church.

It’s great to meet one of my childhood heroes,” said Phil.

Timmy added: “It’s been fantastic stopping and chatting to so many people and I have loved seeing the beautiful sights here. Lincolnshire really is a gem.”

He decided to set out to see Lincolnshire from his bike - and to visit his friends Bishop David Rossdale and wife Karen, of East Keal.

The star has cycled the majority of this alone - pedalling through both torrential rain and warm sunshine. But both David and Karen joined him for some of the route.

He is now heading out to King’s Lynn where he will finish his journey home by train.
