Sir William Robertson Academy in Welbourn celebrated World Book Day in style with most of the teaching staff dressed as dramatic book characters along with many of the pupils.

Activities during the day included reading sections of Roald Dahl’s ‘Man from the South’ at the beginning of each lesson, a fun quiz in which pupils had to guess the teacher reading the book at home and a book snap competition.

Characters included Skellig from the same titled book, Alice in Wonderland, Scout from To Kill a Mockingbird, Draco Malfoy from Harry Potter, MacBeth, Wally from Where’s Wally and Gangsta Granny.

Winners of Book Quiz in the library at lunchtime were Team Einstein – Tom Penneck, Ben Coleman, Ben Ashcroft and Oska Mirfin – all in Year 8.

Tom Wilkinson in Year 7 won the best character costume award for his Sherlock Holmes as decided by the Head Boy and Girl, Tom Lane and Libby Arnold.

English Teacher Mrs Ainsley was awarded the best character costume for the witch in Macbeth. Mrs Barnett dressed as Cruella De Ville from 101 Dalmatians and even took her character to the classroom for her English lesson.
