West End star Oliver Tompsett puts Barkston Primary School pupils through their paces.

Pupils at Barkston and Syston Primary School have taken part in a workshop with West End Star Oliver Tompsett.

Oliver, who has starred in Wicked, Rock of Ages and White Christmas, spent the day with pupils teaching them two dance routines from another of his shows We Will Rock You.

The children learned about the life of a musical theatre actor, how fit you have to be to undertake stage roles and how disciplined actors have to be to learn the dances accurately. The children were also taught acting techniques.

Heateacher Sally-Anne Caunter said: “I could see the children’s confidence growing as the day went on. At the end of the afternoon, the children performed two dance routines for their parents and the other pupils at the school. Parents were surprised how much the children had learned in just one day.”
