WHAT’S ON: Grantham Guildhall offers a night with raconteur Owen or the sound of Scottish reels next month
Guildhall Arts Centre has two contrasting evenings of entertainment lined up next month.
Nicholas Owen is the well known journalist and broadcaster – seen on BBC television news and heard on Class FM on his Saturday shows – will present An Evening of Stories and Anecdotes in the theatre on Friday, June 2.
He will share his zig-zag journey from a local paper, via Fleet Street in its heyday, to many years of high profile presentation of TV news, including his leading role as a royal correspondent for ITN and his personal encounters with the Royal Family to what is it really like to front a TV programme when everything goes wrong – or to interview a Prime Minister – and lighter moments such as his appearance on Strictly Come Dancing.
Tickets are priced at £16/£14 concessions.
Celtic music fans are in for a treat on Saturday, June 10, when Blazin’ Fiddles take to the stage.
Blazin’ Fiddles are undoubtedly one of the world’s most prolific fiddle groups.
Over the last 17 years, no other band has quite managed to capture the excitement, passion and sensitivity of Scottish music all at once.
With a ‘Blazers’ performance comes the rare opportunity to hear the regional expressions, from Scotland’s Highlands and islands, and the individual style from each fiddler – Inverness’s Bruce MacGregor, Shetlander Jenna Reid, Nairn’s Rua Macmillan, and Orcadian Kristan Harvey – in a blend of ensemble and solo sets.
Fiddles and bows come alight atop guitar and piano from Anna Massie and Angus Lyon, delivering a musically intoxicating evening for all.
Tickets are £16/£15 concessions.
